APRS World's Test Sites
APRS World vigorously tests our wind turbines to ensure the best performance in all applications. We have test sites in some of the harshest locations possible."Hell's Peak", Northern Nevada
Live Data: http://data.aprsworld.com/sites/wtaprs/hellspeak/"Hell's Peak" is a 9,000 foot elevation mountain in Northern Nevada. Summer is mild, but winter packs a wallop. 150+ MPH winds and extreme ice are common. Working on "Hell's Peak" can be a challenge. The winds are often fierce and the mountain require specialized equipment and a fair bit of bravery to access. 10 years of wind turbine testing on the mountain have repeatedly shown that what takes 10 years to break in a normal rough site will break in one year or less on this mountain.
APRS World has invested heavily to make "Hell's Peak" our premier and primary test site. The harsh conditions on this mountain have given APRS World fantastic opprotunities to develop rugged wind turbines and nearly indestructible balance of system and instrumentation components.
Fremont, Minnesota
Live Data: http://data.aprsworld.com/sites/wtaprs/fremont/Located 20 minutes from APRS World's headquarters, Fremont provides us a quick and convenient location to test our turbines. The turbine is located approximately 100' up a 120' guyed lattice tower. The turbine is side arm mounted from the tower and has anemometers, wind vane, and IP camera located at turbine level. This mounting configuration causes some turbulence and decreased power output in some wind directions.
