Introduction
This bi-direction, high-side current sense Amplifier attaches directly to Deltec MKA shunt or similar. It amplifies shunt voltage by 20 times and adds a 2.5 volt offset. All wires are fused with 0.125 amp fuses and the amplifier comes standard with 5-foot shielded 24 AWG 300V wire and a voltage sense wire. It can be ordered with no wire or custom length wire. Conformal coating is available as an option. Shunt not included — see accessories below.
Wire color codes and functions:
- Red: +5 volts
- White: Volt sense (connected to + on shunt)
- Green: Current sense
- Black: Ground
Transfer Function
There are two parameters you need to calculate the transfer function between voltage output of current sense amplifier and current flowing through the shunt:
- vdrop or rated voltage drop across shunt.
- irated or rated current of the shunt.
Using those values, calculate:
m = irated / ( vdrop * 20 )
b = m * -2.5
m and b are used in the equation:
i = m * vsensor + b
Example with sensor outputting 3.75 volts with a 100 amp / 100mV shunt:
m = ( 100 / ( 0.100 * 20 ) ) = 50
b = 50 * -2.5 = -125
i = 50 * 3.75 + -125 = 62.5 amps
